2024 4th International Conference on Educational Technology (ICET 2024) 
Conference Theme: "Data-Intelligence Augmented Educational Technologies"

 

The 4th International Conference on Educational Technology (ICET 2024), co-hosted by the National Engineering Research Center for Education Big Data, the National Engineering Research Center for E-Learning, and Wuhan Intelligent Education Industry Technology Research Institute, held at Central China Normal University in Wuhan, China, on September 13th-15th.
The conference is set to attract over 260 distinguished experts and scholars from more than 19 countries and regions. Notable participants include Professor Sannvya Liu, Vice President of Central China Normal University, Professor Mingzhang Zuo, Vice Dean of the School of Educational Information Technology at CCNU.
With the theme of “Data-Intelligence Augmented Educational Technologies,” ICET 2024 aims to foster the exchange of ideas, showcase cutting-edge research, and strengthen collaborations in the integration of data intelligence and educational technologies to enhance educational practices worldwide.

The conference was proudly co-hosted by the National Engineering Research Center for Education Big Data, the National Engineering Research Center for E-Learning, and Wuhan Intelligent Education Industry Technology Research Institute, with the generous support of Central China Normal University and the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence in Education. Furthermore, we were honored to have the Journal of Distance Education as our technical sponsor, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology Press, Modern Distance Education Research, Frontiers of Digital Education, and Bon View Publishing as our media partners. Additionally, Beijing Psychtech Technology Co., Ltd, China, served as our bronze sponsor. This collaboration and support laid a solid foundation for the success of the conference. 

The conference comprised 5 keynote presentations, 12 invited talks, 13 panel Tracks, 1 Chinese Forum,  1 Lab Visit and 2 poster sessions. The keynote speakers shared their research findings and academic perspectives in the field of educational technology and related areas.
 

Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony of ICET 2024 marked the beginning of an inspiring and impactful conference, setting the stage for the academic discussions and collaborative opportunities ahead.


 

 

The ceremony was hosted by Assoc. Prof. Zhi Liu from Central China Normal University, China, who welcomed attendees and introduced the distinguished speakers for the opening session. Prof.  Yuqin Yang  from Central China Normal University, China hosted the keynote session.


Opening Remark delivered by Prof. Sannyuya Liu, Vice President of Central China Normal University, China. Prof. Liu began the conference with an inspiring address, emphasizing the transformative role of educational technology in shaping the future of education. She highlighted the importance of international collaboration and the need to address global challenges through innovative research and practices.


Welcome Address delivered by Prof. Mingzhang Zuo, Vice Dean of the School of Educational Information Technology at Central China Normal University, China.
Prof. Zuo extended a warm welcome to all participants and expressed his appreciation for the organizers' efforts in bringing together a diverse group of experts and researchers. He underscored the conference’s theme and its relevance to the evolving landscape of educational technology.

 

Keynote Speakers

During the keynote sessions, numerous experts and scholars shared their research progress. Professor Dragan Gasevic from Monash University, Australia, explored new perspectives on assessing learning skills in the age of AI. Professor Hu Xianggen from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University presented recent advancements in research on dialogic intelligent tutoring systems in the context of large language models. Professor Wang Minhong from The University of Hong Kong examined innovative learning approaches supported by technology, focusing on human learning interactions. Additionally, Professor Liu Qi from the University of Science and Technology of China and Professor Kong Siu-Cheung from The Education University of Hong Kong delivered talks on cutting-edge topics such as cognitive diagnosis in intelligent education and generative AI empowering self-regulated learning, respectively.

Chinese Forum

A special highlight of ICET 2024 was the Chinese Forum, titled “AI4Science视域下的教育科学研究范式创新” (Innovating Educational Research Paradigms through the Lens of AI4Science). This distinguished session brought together renowned scholars to delve into the transformative intersections of artificial intelligence, science, and educational research paradigms.



The forum was masterfully moderated by the distinguished Professor Li Qing, whose profound expertise and dynamic facilitation ensured an engaging and thought-provoking discussion. Her ability to synthesize complex ideas and guide the dialogue enriched the session and inspired meaningful exchanges.

These distinguished scholars provided diverse perspectives, shedding light on the role of AI in reshaping educational research paradigms in China and worldwide. The forum exemplified the conference’s mission to promote interdisciplinary innovation and was a testament to the exceptional leadership of both the moderator and the participating scholars in advancing academic exchange and collaboration.

Lab Visit: National Engineering Research Center of Educational Big Data

As part of the conference activities, attendees had the opportunity to visit the National Engineering Research Center of Educational Big Data. This state-of-the-art facility focuses on advancing research and development in the application of big data to education.

During the visit, participants explored cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions aimed at addressing educational challenges, including personalized learning systems, large-scale data analysis, and AI-driven educational tools. Researchers from the center provided insightful demonstrations and shared their latest projects, fostering discussions about the transformative role of big data in shaping the future of education. This visit offered a valuable opportunity for attendees to gain a deeper understanding of the practical applications of educational big data and to network with leading experts in the field.

教育大数据应用技术国家工程研究中心(以下简称国家工程研究中心)于2017年由国家发展改革委批复建设,是面向教育行业、专门从事教育大数据研究和应用创新的国家级科研平台,2021年纳入国家工程研究中心新序列,是国家战略科技力量的重要组成部分。在参观期间,与会者探索了旨在解决教育挑战的尖端技术和创新解决方案,包括个性化学习系统、大规模数据分析和人工智能驱动的教育工具。该中心的研究人员提供了富有洞察力的演示并分享了他们的最新项目,促进了关于大数据在塑造教育未来方面的变革性作用的讨论。
